The Cell Banking Leader within Bioprocess Technology, MS&T
will serve as the technical lead for cell banking activities
associated with late-stage and commercial products across the
entire biologics network. The position is located in Devens, MA and
reports to the Associate Director, Bioprocess Technology.
Manufacturing of master, working, and end-of-production cell
banks are essential steps in the biologics manufacturing process.
This position will lead a team of scientist and engineers that
provides technical oversight and support to the network for related
cell banking activities. The group is responsible for technical
transfer, process definition, manufacturing support, and regulatory
support of the Devens Cell Banking Facility. The position may also
support biologics drug substance upstream processing more broadly
The MS&T cell banking leader is highly cross-functional and
challenging position, involving oversight to cell banking
activities across the entire late stage and commercial biologics
portfolio. This individual will be expected to define and drive
network-wide strategies to establish best practices across the
biologics network for cell banking process control and testing
standards. In addition, the cell banking group will provide network
support to health authority interactions, BLA submissions, and site
support for corporate and heath authority audits and inspections.
The group will work closely with key stakeholders including
upstream bioprocess technology, process development, cell line
development, manufacturing operations, manufacturing support,
quality, regulatory, viral safety, and microbiology center of
excellence. This individual will be expected to provide regular
updates to MS&T leadership.
This position requires resolution of complex problems through
strong matrix leadership of cross-functional teams to meet process,
technical, and quality related objectives. The cell bank leader
position will have multiple direct reports.
Position Requirements/Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline with a
minimum of 8 years of relevant experience. A Master's or PhD is
- Time spent in advanced degree programs may be considered as
equivalent to relevant experience.
- Expertise in at least one area of drug substance bioprocessing
such as cell banking, cell-culture/fermentation, protein
purification, process development, or manufacturing support is
