- Required Must-Have: Graduated from an accredited school of
Occupational Therapy or equivalent Description: The purpose is to
evaluate, plan, direct, and administer Occupational Therapy
modalities of treatment as prescribed by a licensed physician.
Perform all aspects of patient care in an environment that
optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical
errors. Demonstrate skills in outpatient rehabilitation settings to
effectively provide Occupational Therapy evaluations and
treatments. Familiarity with best practices and the latest evidence
for common ambulatory clinic pathologies of the upper quadrant is
essential. Proficiency with rendering common treatment techniques
such as manual therapy, neuro-rehab techniques, exercise
modalities, and use of functional activities is required.
Responsibilities include administering treatments and occupational
agents as prescribed by a physician to restore function and prevent
disability. Assist patients in reaching their maximum performance
and level of functioning while learning to live within their
capabilities. Observe and evaluate treatment effects, recommending
changes to the physician if needed. Perform an appropriate
evaluation and assessment on each patient and conduct reassessments
as per policy. Assess patient pain interfering with optimal
function or participation in rehabilitation and make appropriate
physician contact for intervention. Formulate a teaching plan based
on identified learning needs and evaluate the effectiveness of
learning, including family in teaching as appropriate. Treat
patients and their families with respect and dignity, addressing
psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and spiritual needs. Manage and
operate equipment safely and correctly while maintaining department
cleanliness and safety. Interact professionally with patients and
their families, involving them in the formation of the plan of
care. Communicate appropriately and clearly with physicians, staff,
and the administrative team. Coordinate and direct patient care to
ensure patient needs are met while following established policies.
Consult with other departments as necessary to collaborate in
patient care and performance improvement activities. Direct
appropriate department staff, including occupational therapy
assistants and students. Maintain records pertinent to personnel
and operation of the department. Meet current clinical
documentation standards and policies. Assist with orientation and
training for certified staff members. Participate in guidance and
educational programs. Utilize approved abbreviations when recording
information. Ensure that patient charges are accurate and entered
