About Community Foundation of North Central MassachusettsThe Community Foundation of North Central Massachusetts, located in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, is seeking an experienced Director of Development to help grow the amount of philanthropic dollars invested in addressing the opportunities and challenges facing our communities and families. Celebrating our 20th year, the Community Foundation has grown our philanthropic assets to over $75 million allowing us to direct more than $4 million annually to local charitable activities.The Community Foundation of North Central Massachusetts manages charitable funds established by individuals, families, businesses and non-profit organizations. We work to promote philanthropy in our region and help philanthropists invest in the communities and causes they care passionately about.We also make annual competitive grants to nonprofit organizations serving the 33 communities in our region in the areas of the environment and animal welfare, education and career readiness, community enrichment, organizational development, and community health.We are an organization of individuals passionately committed to serving our region, making it a place where all can live happy, health and rewarding lives. With deep knowledge of our region, community leadership, strategic collaboration and effective grantmaking, we seek to provide the resources to strengthen and improve our communities.Position OverviewReporting directly to the President/CEO, the Director of Development will, in partnership with the President and Board, build and execute a development plan to cultivate relationships that lead to growth in Community Foundation philanthropic assets.
Director of Development Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement fundholder cultivation strategies
  • Ensure that effective client relationship management protocols are developed and followed
  • Engage Board members in asset development activities
  • Develop and implement professional advisor cultivation and engagement strategies with the aim of increasing referrals
  • Contribute to a communications plan to cultivate new donors and engage and inspire existing donors
  • Maintain and strengthen fundholder relationships
  • Establish and maintain community networks to promote the work of the Community Foundation and to develop new fundholder relationships
  • Staff the Development CommitteeDirector of Development Qualifications and Skills
    • Education and experience comparable to a Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree a plus
    • Minimum 5 years' experience in financial services and/or development leadership with a proven track record of success in advancement
    • Knowledge of and experience with techniques for identifying and cultivating prospective clients
    • Ability to establish successful interpersonal relationships with clients, colleagues, and external partners
    • Team player with the ability to contribute to a collaborative, enjoyable team environment
    • Strong presentation skills with the ability to serve as a passionate ambassador for the Foundation and its mission
    • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to plan and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
